(NOTE: Maui County has selected the Central Maui Landfill as location for the Long-term Disposal Site.)
In light of the public outcry in response to the Olowalu temporary disposal site that was constructed in December, Mayor Bissen has committed to not using Olowalu as a permanent disposal site. In addition to the 3 locations on Maui that have been selected by the county to permanently dispose of the ash and debris locally, several other alternative solutions have been proposed independently. Debris and ash from the temporary disposal site will be removed from Olowalu once a permanent site is selected to be built, or an alternative solution is established and accepted by the county. Maui community must speak up and let our voices be heard while we navigate this extremely important decision making process.
